I have, I believe, fallen foul to a cursed yellow box.  I wasn't on the ball at all yesterday morning, and think I got done by one of those new Trevelo speed cameras, the ones that point AT you and use infra-red (no white flash). The problem is, when I hit the brakes I was doing about 45mph (I think, obviously I can't be sure, certainly wasn't any more than that!). Because they don't flash, I don't even know if I was done!

Tricky thing is, I assumed the speed limit to be 40 or 50, as it was a DUAL CARRIAGE WAY. However, a dual carriageway on the outskirts of town, with STREETLIGHTS in the middle. Unfortuneately, that means the limit turns out to in fact be 30mph....ridicuous, but true. With a solid metal central reservation, no footpaths either side, and no housing(a few office buildings set well back from the road....30mph...pfff)

Two questions. Firstly, I live in Hampshire and the potential incident occurred on the outskirts of Southampton, does anybody know if they (Hamspshire Police) run the speed awareness courses instead of taking 3 points in my county?

Other thing is, assuming the worse case scenario that I hit the brakes too late and was clocked at the full 45 in a 30, does this mean its too fast for a speed awareness course, and secondly what is the likely amoutn of points and fine I am likely to be hit with? Does it depend on age etc....as I'm only 20 :( Whilst I have been driving for 3+ years and will be 21 in a couple of months, obviously if I get points my insurance will skyrocket. My own silly fault, I know, but just wondering what you guys had to say in regards to my questions.

Cheers! Jamie :|

So glad the cameras don't worksheet I live, it's 3 points and I think £60 fine which increases to £120 if no paid in 2 weeks.

There's also the possibility you weren't done.

I've been (supposedly) done by red light cameras before (gunned it instead of slowing down - was stupid o'clock at night). The camera definitely flashed, but nothing came of it

I'd just play the waiting game for now.

On the isle of wight which is policed by Hampshire you tick a box on the ticket to say you're interested in the course but you have to of been doing 42 or less I believe. They tend to favour this option for younger drivers.

The other annoying twist to the tale is my V5 is registered to my student house in Newcastle, and I have moved over the summer but stupidly haven't got around to sending off the V5 with my change of address....I posted it today but obviously Bank Holiday today so it will take a few days to get to the DVLA and then up to 3 weeks for them to post me my new V5.....which means I'm not sure where they will post the Speeding Letter (if I get one!). I shall just contact my old landlord and get him to check for my post (as Mail Forwarding takes 10days to kick in etc., and it's too much hassle). The only reason my car is registered in Newcastle is you have to register it there to obtain a parking permit! Nightmare.

Anyway thanks for all your replies guys, fingerss crossed and as you say, time to play the waiting game!
