first post.

i have a 6n2 gti.

how low can i go without a chasis notch?
what coilovers are best for this? and how much are they?

I will be on standard wheels, but can be variable with the tyre choice for more clearance.

my mate has challenged me to get lower than his mx5
so I've got work to do

Nowhere near without a notch..!!

I'd say 90mm before you need notching. Which wont work on standard wheels with massive tyres.

6n2's do go low though. This ins on cheap ebay JOM's, notched, bump stops cut in half...etc etc etc

hmmm, i think a notch is a bit more involved than i want to go.

are they expensive?

i might just go for ebay coils then, and go down as low as i can before i get knockings.

what is the ride like on cheap coils on these?

Erm... To be honest the ride isn't all that bad it's just not as firm as standard, and for what you would pay for decent coileys to go so low you could probably pay for ta techincs (eBay jobbies) and the notches ?.

Just an idea ?.

I could, however I live in Guernsey in Channel Islands.

And nobody here would do a chasis notch. so that is out the question.

also if i went properly low on cheapo coils. I would imagine taking bump stops/helper springs/adjusters out results in a truely dump ride on cheap coils.

I was looking at KW Variant 1s, but then also JOM coils seem to come recommended.

Im on JOM's. When i first got the car it had previously been lowered and was back on standard springs/shocks, which were in pretty poor shape, so needed some coils sharpish.

Was a bit skint at the time so went for the JOM's, and to be honest mate i really like them! There not amazingly comfortable but i wouldn't class them as uncomfortable. I paid £210 for mine with the 2 year guarantee. Been on for almost 18 months now and still going strong. If your cars going to be that low its not going to be the comfiest ride anyway.

I wouldn't reccomend taking the helper springs out.
