The Polo GTI does not have a MAF sensor - thats why you can't find it.

They have a MAP sensor on the inlet manifold instead.

Map sensor is on the opposite end of the intake to the throttle body. If you remove any air box/induction kit you have fitted, look down where the crankcase breather comes up, and you will see it there on the side. Access is a little tight, so I popped out the 2 fuel lines from their retainers, and moved them aside.. It's just 2 little bolts that hold it in. Just be gentle. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and replace..

AHA! My MAP sensor is the b***h thats causing me problems. I've been told not to spray the actual sensor, but the hole where it goes in with carb cleaner. I'm gonna get on it later this afternoon.

Make sure you dont get carb cleaner anywhere near the MAP - itll destroy it.

Sorry, shoulda been clearer, as Alex said! Don't spray sensor.. Just clean out the hole you remove it from! :) good call..

Hmmm.. I sprayed contact cleaner on a cotton bud, and cleaned it with it. Then I just sprayed carb cleaner in my inlet manifold, which I'm pretty sure is just black inside. My throttle body is completely full of dirt, and I only cleaned it out a few months back.

Was a doddle to do. You need a Torx 15 bit to undo the two bolts on the sensor. Used some contact cleaner on the sensor itself & carb cleaner in the manifold.

Trunks, are you running the crank case breather into the air inlet still? I left mine off, with a filter on of course, blocked old hole, and the intake has stayed spotless since I cleaned her last.. Nice touch with the cotton bud tho, gotta be easier than dry cloth wiping.. That stuff gets a little chewy.. Lol

My throttle body is spotless and I run the crank case breather on my typhoon kit. Was your map sensor dirty then? Pics?

Yeah mine was a little dirty, I'm guessing that it was residual after the standard airbox was upgraded to the bmc.. Not that it matters now.. Spotless ;-) Reason I have not uploaded any pics is because i am a little slack with my knowledge.. How do I upload pics from the iPhone? Is there a way or am I gonna have to start using a 'real' camera? :)

I use an app called photobucket. It's really good and I never need a computer for uploading pics it's really good. And it's free from the app store, win! Lol!
