6n2 1.8 20v Turbo Project

Hi all,

I bought a 2000 red polo gti on a whim this year and what a great little car it is.

I'm a bit of a RWD drift nut but with 9 points on my license i decided i needed to get out of getting caught sliding round roundabouts in a 400bhp 200sx and into something a lot more sensible.
I've had quite a few cars in my 25 year existance, a 2004 impreza sti, 2000 impreza prodrive, BMW 535i, S14a 200sx, S13 200sx, clio willaims.. to name but a few but ive always liked the little 6n2 gti's.

I'm in the process of buying the necessities to make the conversion happen, i have a 150bhp (standard) golf gti engine lined up with 5 speed box, loom etc and someone to fit custom engine mounts.

Anyone done this before on here?

Any tips much welcome as i'll be doing much of the work myself?

Cheers

Sorry I can't post any advice on the engine swap dude cos I've never done it,
I look forward to seeing the progress of the conversion as I someday dream of it (and will do it someday :-p)

What spec is the GTI bud?

Get some pics up of the beast :-)

A few folk have done it over at the club-polo site. I'm in the process of sticking a gt25 turbo on the 1.6 polo lump, aiming for around 170 - 180bhp with standard internals.

Alot of custom fabrication work is required in order to fit a 20vT lump inside a 6n2. Nevermind the rest of the business like sorting out the correct lump and gearbox and pedal-box match, then the wiring loom wired up correctly. Most companies charge around £5500 to do this. I'm going turbo on a budget of £1000, to cover parts. Being fairly competant with a spanner helps as well ;)

Yeh your right it'll never be a straight forward swap, always gonna have to mod something to make it fit.
Thats a rather tight budget so it definitely helps if you can use a spanner and know what goes where lol
Don't think I'd be great at doing a swap myself tho lol
