hi guys, tried to replace my thermostat as the car isnt always getting upto temp only to completely mess things up.

basically the pin on the new thermostat is too long and i couldnt get the housing to go back on so i cut the pin so it was the same length as the old one however this was a bad move as it seems the thermostat will no longer open as the top rad hose was getting rock hard and hot while the pipe to the stat was freezing cold. i am now carless and have so useable stat as i broke the old one aswell as the new one.

ill be getting aother new one tomorrow hoever if the pin is too long again im in the same position.

can anyone offer any advice on this as im currently stuck and carless!

cheers

Just run your car without a thermostat until the new one arrives

think ive solved it anyway, just need to puch harder on the pin to make it receed into the copper body, i obviously didnt try hard enough.
