Wifeys X plate 150k mile 1.6 gti is in need of a new clutch as it has juddering issues, I got the usual quote from mr clutch as a benchmark ( £230 ) but after sevral warnings on piston heads and numerous horror stories about there workmanship or lack of I'd rather take it to an independant I trust.

The question is does the 1.6 16v gti have a special clutch or will somthing from gsf ( if they do them ) be ok, its a standard car and wont be being modified in the future.
I'll be talking to the independant who did the full belt and water pump job for us as they spotted sevral things the mot guy missed ( leaking shock for one ).

I know that somtimes the flywheel may need replacing is this silly money anyone got any links to prices ?

GSF still do the sachs clutch for the 6n2 gti. I picked one up two months ago. It is a part that they will need to order up directly from sachs. See if the independent has a discount with gsf as they may be able to get the clutch cheaper. Mine came in at £108 inc VAT :)

With regards to flywheel, I wouldnt have thought it needs to be changed. The garage will advise you if needs be when they take the transmission off.

P.S - Stay clear from other clutch brands. If you NEED to, you can use LUK.
