SOME ONE PLEASE HELP! SERIOUS HEATER PROBLEMS

My heater is blowing out air, both hot and cold....BUT I have no control of directing the air. It only comes out underneath the dash on the drivers side into the footwell. With bad weather coming very soon I need this sorting ASAP. Booked the car into a specialist auto electrician and was told its EITHER .....the matrix ( a massive and expensive job to replace) OR the control unit. Firstly I want to try and get hold of another control unit and FINGERS crossed it will work.

I will post a copy of the fault report later....think theres 9 faults in total!

Any one else expierenced similar problems?

Hoping to source a control unit from a breaker and try before I buy.

Not been able to source anywhere that were prepared to let me "try" before I "buy" a control unit so decided to have alook myself. The "rod" that is one the right hand side "flaps" control dial has somehow came lose! After a good rummage about I located it. So this is good....the problem I now have is I don't know where the other end connects to!

Can some one please shed some light?

Rods, I thought that any thing relating to "rods" was only relevant if the car manual A/C not auto A/C with the digital control unit. I am only using the clip of listed faults to make that judgment as it mentions "climatronic" which is the name VW only use for automatic A/C systems. Anyway, if it is just manual A/C you have, I think that you should find postings either on here or the seatcupra website, or maybe even the briskoda website, as all these cars tend to use roughly the same A/C control set up. From memory, you are not alone with having rods breaking/disconnecting.

Thanks for the reply. My car doesn't have the digital temprature display. It's not arod as such....its made from tightly coiled wire to make it flexible. I just need to know roughly where it connects to so I can start dismantling the interior trim/dash fittings

All sorted now...to say I am happy is an understatement! Got quoted £13 for a new connector rod and £150 to connect it.

Done it myself with the help of this (VERY USEFUL, PLEASE MAKE IT A STICKY) diagram and alot of patience!

Good! These VAG heater systems can cost a bit to fix, I think that a flap motor roughly costs £80 and its only maybe £500+ to fit! Your are lucky that some of your controls are "rods".
