Passat W8 Interior Light into a 9n.

Ok so I bought the W8 Kit off eBay (
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250949080498? ... 1497.l2649), and I have fitted the new loom, ran the led wire down the A pillar and spliced it into the sidelights. Overall very chuffed.
However, the light unit itself will not sit in the roof/lining. The metal retaining clips on the side just push it out.
Has anyone fitted one of these to a 9n before and what did you have to do to make it fit?
Cheers Dom

It
will be a super mod, the LED glow is lovely.
Just need some advice from someone before I start chopping bits up/off.
As for the wiring, I just took the old light out, took the a pillar off, ran the cable all the way down to the headlight switch and used a scotch lock to splice it into the sidelight wiring.
Have a read of this

Dom, I've just seen your post on my for sale thread. Was going to PM you but figured that it's probably best to post on this thread in case others have the same problem.
As I'm sure you've noticed, the W8 light clips into a plastic ring that surrounds the hole in the headlining. The problem is that the plastic tabs on the light unit (on the side of the downlighters) aren't shaped for this ring, so it doesn't sit properly and so pops out. I've just looked and I haven't got any photos, but basically you need to cut the radiused edge of these tabs to make it deep enough for it to fit over the plastic ring. It's pretty easy, just needs a stanley knife and some patience.
Messing about with mine caused the ring to come off from the headlining. I ended up doing the cutting with the ring off the car so I could be sure that they were fitting together on the bench properly. I then superglued the ring back into the headlining and clipped the light in. If yours has come a bit loose as well it might be worth trying to do it this way, makes life a lot easier.

yeah saw those, thanks for that. thta does look crap though - the way it doesnt fit into the roof hole properly... - so ive hesitated buying the kit. Is the unit the same size as the 9N one or is it slightly larger? by the write up it seems there is just a couple of tabs that need a bit of playing with --- how you finding it mate?
