Advice on fitting coilovers

Hi guys, bit of a weird thread but here it goes.
Had a go at fitting my coilovers myself last year, and really for the life of me couldnt get the fronts out at all. after reading a thread on 'clubpolo' i was sure it was going to a nice (not to difficult) job to do. but i was wrong. ended up paying £80 for a garage to get them fitted, no allignment though
they were removed and the stock springs were put back in about 5 months after, and now i want to have another go myself.
i understand the rears are well easy but anybody have a nice easyish way to get the suspesion out?
i have spring clamps, hammers blocks of wood etc, so through the adivce at me!
