Lambda values from VCDS

Evening all,
I was messing around with my Golf earlier trying to get VCDS to scan the engine module. Anyway, while it was out I thought I'd scan the Polo again. Recently it got an error about one of the lambda sensors, so I cleared it and it has not returned yet (just some rubbish about the imobilser stopping the engine, which has never happened!).
Anyway, I started logging some values, and I got my lambda up to 28 and rising! From what I read, it should be within -1.0 to 1.0. Two possibilities as I see it, I have a very dead sensor (or cat), or I'm reading the values wrong.
Anyone able to shed any light? It feels slower than my Golf, but I think it's just the torque of the TDi making it feel faster, although I swear the Polo used to have more go before. . .
Thanks!
Joe
