Will a 6N2 run without the clocks fitted?

Hi there I'm having trouble finding a fault on a polo 6N2. It basically has not dash lights but will crank and not start. I've managed to obtain some wiring diagrams and it seems the immobiliser runs through the clocks!!
I've plugged the car into VAGcom and it won't communicate with the ECU. I've checked all the ignition supply's to the ECU and all are fine. Anyone any ideas on this?
Immobiliser fault?
Faulty clocks?
Any help would be greatly revived
Thanks for looking

The immob doesn't go through the clocks.

Is it a diesel ?
Does the fuel pump prime ?
Are you getting dash lights for the engine itself, ie: check light, emissions, if it's a derv, coil ?
