Hi Peps new to uk-polos so just after a bit of help regarding my polo 6n2, i had the gearbox reconditioned about 3 years ago and all working fine until now im gettng a noise while in 4th gear on acceleration espescially in low revs it doesnt sound like the whining or grinding noise i had before the gearbox went as its totally differentmore of a deep rattle. any suggestions?

If it sounds like a rattle then it could be a number of things such as the exhaust brackets or the manifold heat shield etc.
When my gearbox started to go it first became apparent in 4th & 5th gear so it could potentially be the early signs of gearbox damage but you may need to be more specific about where the noise is coming from.

Have a look under the car and try to move the exhaust centre section with your hands (looking for excess movement), also look under the bonnet to see if there is anything obvious that could be causing the rattle such as the engine cover, manifold heat shield, under tray etc

I think everybody that owns a Polo GTI always has the gearbox at the back of their mind, especially when you start hearing odd noises but its not always the case and often its something simple that just needs replacing or re-tightening.

thanks for the response all other gears are fine couldnt see anything lose in the engine bay all seems pretty tight although i did have a exhaust bracket welded asges ago and that was a different noise all together, if it was low on geabox oil would it make a noise through every gear?
