Sub woofer power cable help!!

So I'm trying to wire my sub in and I have got an rca adapter for the head unit so I've got my phonos all sorted, ground cables sorted but I have two issues

One: Where is the remote cable? As far as I'm aware there isn't one on the head unit have other people found this/what work arounds are there?

and two: more importantly how do you get the power cable from the engine bay to the car?

I have tried putting it through this hole (on the passenger side top right under the plastic under the windscreen)

and waiting for it to come through either behind the glove compartment or through the side flap:

but no dice, I also had a go at prodding it through the plug but the rubber is too tough and its quite inaccessible (explains the awful photo)

so who's installed an amp and sub into their 6r and could you tell me/show me photos of how you've got your power cable through, would really appreciate it!

Hey man, as for the remote wire, and the audio cables going into the amp you'll need a box converter thing. you have to get all this correctly wired to the harness box (i got mine done from an audio shop). The box cost me £20 but you can definately pick it up cheaper on ebay or something?
My power cable came through a rubber gromit on the passenger side, and it came out from under the black mesh cover and rubber seal in bonnet. it might just be the same one your trying actually?

You need to remove the side "D" at the end of the dashboard when you open the passenger door (left hand side) then get something like a long screwdriver or a coat hanger and prod it through the hole first (from the engine compartment) as it needs to break through some soundproofing. then you should be able so see it poke through, and you should be able to direct it down to the bottom of the footwell.

I'm planning a write up soon, so stay tuned.

got my mate to do it in the end! Although I wired it all up today and the sub wasn't working. Not sure why the only reason I can think of is that the line level converter I have isn't one with a remote converter so I have no remote wire but I thought this would just mean I'd have to disconnect it from the battery when I wanted it off.

Any ideas?

Take a power feed from an accessory outlet - e.g cigarette lighter socket - this will provide a constant feed while the engine is on, but will turn off when you turn off the ignition. That's your best bet, or use a high level amplifier which will know when there is a signal, turn itself on and off accordingly. I know that there is a Rockford Forsgate amp which is capable of this.

Or you could take the remote wire through the headunit cage, pull it out underneath the steering wheel. Theres a fuse box under the sterring wheel and with a bit of prodding you can find a fuse that turns on and off according to the car and then just thread the wire in.

I had to do this after i took my polo in for a service and they just went and just the remote wire from my headunit, for no reason what so ever?!?!

I'm gonna go to halfords and swap the line level converter I had cause the guy told me I needed the one I have but you can get ones with remote converters so I'll see if I can get one today :)

I'm so crap at wiring! Right so I have my line level converter hooked up, all the wires connected and the remote wire connected to one of my fuses. When I connect the power cable to the battery and turn the ignition I just get feedback from the sub which gets progressively louder and if i leave it on for around 5 seconds all my electrics stop working until i remove it from the positive battery terminal

Any help?!

With the electrics going off do you have a good clean earth poinf for the amp? By removing the paint to bright steel where your gonna mount the earth lead. If you dont mind me asking how have you connected your head unit to the amp? As i wanna do this.

That's what my mate reckons, gonna try and get a better one, I just unscrewed the brake light ground and put it onto there.

You need to get a line level converter which basically converts all the wires into the OEM head unit to RCA cables, to connect them up you need these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_265878 . Just match up the cables and pop them both in there and crimp it. I'll get a photo this weekend if you want?

Where is your amp mounted? If its in the boot there is a massive earth stud in the spare wheel well :D A bad earth causes all sorts of probs. if you dont mind me asking what guage power cable are you using?

So once you have converted to rca cables where do you connect your speakers to?

Yeah I read that gonna try that at the weekend! Hopefully that'll fix it :) & I'm using 4 gauge vibe cables

You just run the rca cables out to your amp, I'm only connecting an active sub I'm pretty impressed with the stock speakers for everything else so I'm gonna leave them :)
