6N2 Door Handles...Reversal?

Right so after having my gti broken into with the classic hammer and chisel into the barrel lock, my drivers side door handle is looking unsightly to say the least. For a repair and new barrel lock Ive been quoted over £100! However, I have a spare PASSENGER side door handle which is pretty much symmetrical so was wondering if anyone knows if this would fit the drivers side as a straight swap?
