hi
this month im going to buy a vw polo 9n diesel and i would like to know what is the best diesel engine for the polo.i was looking for the 100bhp tdi pd diesel.my previus car were

1.2 VW POLO 9N 2002 55BHP(about 100.000 miles on it) :?
1.4 VW POLO 9N 2002 75BHP(About 83.000 mile on it) 8)
all of them were petrol

im changing my car for only one reason...fuel consumption.
also this is the first diesel car for me so any tips would be great, also i was looking to one vw polo tdi 100bhp with 116.000 miles full service history and cambelt change but im not sure if the milege is too high.

thank for you help!! :D

The pd engines are great all around, I owned a petrol 9n polo before and the first thing you'll notice with a pd is huge mid range torque when the turbo kicks in around 2k rpm, average real life mpg of like 55 and a stage one remap will give you another 35 ponies with no loss of mpg :) as above the mileage should be fine as long as the service history is up together.

hi thanks for the replyes !!
do i have to worry about the gearbox? becouse on my first polo the gearbox needed to be replace a about 101.000 miles.also is the insurace gonna be more expensive then my current car(vw polo 2002 1.4 75bhp 9n)
im really looking forward for a remap on the 1.9 tdi
i drove the vw polo gt(tdi 130) few weeks ago :P loved it, but the cost of that car is really high and the avaiability is very low.
i do motorway nearly everyday and with the 1.4 75 is quite painfull.i usualy drive it at 2000rpm in 5th gear and the speed is about 45 to 48 mph :? .
does the sport version come with tripcomputer(so that i can check the mpgs more easely) 8) ?

thanks

I'm not aware of any gearbox problem with these, well, vs the 6n2/lupo problems anyways.

I've got a sport , comes with a trip computer.

I cruised 65-70mph a few months ago on a 4 hour trip to Cornwall, averaged about 65ish mpg. Get about 45ish daily but that's cold mornings and back lanes on a 12 mile trip to work so not the ideal condition for uber mpg

Insurance will be so similar it will baffle you. It's probably due to some crazy statistic that diesel drivers have fewer accidents or something, either way you get more bang for your buck insurance wise, especially in these crazy times (fuel-wise too)

Pd130s are pretty rare indeed and in the end I settled for a pd100 with all the other bits I wanted, but get a stage 1 on it and the power output is about the same, apart from the 5 speed gearbox and the fact the smaller turbo gets worked a bit harder. But as long as you get a good map (no torque spikes) and warm it up before you give max chat then you'll be fine. Also the gearbox problem I've never heard of, sounds like a rare fault.

As for the trip computers I think they appear on mid range polos and above, so a tdi sport will have one :)

I have a 1.4 TDi and hasnt missed a beat, bought it with 115k although I did change the turbo around 125k for about £250 and its now on 132k and going strong :)
Great on fuel, get anywhere between 450-550 to a tank depend on my mood lol

At slowish speeds pop it into 5th and put your foot down and see if the revs jump up.
