1996 1.4 Polo with mystery knocking sound?

Hi all,
Looking for some help on this, I've recently bought a 1996 1.4 Polo in Northern Ireland, but she has now developed a knocking sound coming from the front passengers side, and there is also vibrations coming through as well, took it to a friends Dad to look over but found nothing, everything seems tight and in place, drives almost perfect apart from this problem and the starter motor needs reconditioning, any help or ideas?

I'm thinking it might be a small stone some how stuck in between the brake disc and pad.

Hugh

Can you describe WHEN it knocks?

If on/exiting corners (right handers) look at bottom ball joint 1st.

tock-a-tok-a-tok whilst driving is likely to be a CV joint.

Over bumps could be top mounts, arm bushes, ARB bushes, or something loose.

Is the vibration linked? Normally, vibration (wobbling through the steering) is a wheel balance issue, or if it's just whilst braking, a warped disc.

Hi fonzooorooo,
Long story short, found out it was a wheel bearing on the front drivers side, car was jacked up on one side then the other, £60 in all not bad. But as its my first car had no idea what it was, now I know it for later.

Hugh

P.S. thanks for the tips:grin:

No worries. Glad you sorted it. £60 fitted for a front bearing's a good price!

You soon end up with a head full of this stuff!
