I want to know What everyone else's key/fob central locking is like.
I have to stand a minimum of 2 feet from the Car to unlock it

Brand new fresh batteries too! (2x cr2016). My spare only works if your inside the car but have to press it 10 times, very dodgy.
So how Far can you stand to lock/ unlock the polo??

Mine was pretty good, could get it from 15-20 metres away

Try the holding it to your head thing, you look like a t*t in the process but it's fun if it works

15-20 metres! Is that using your skull or not?

I could only dream of such a range.

I want to know why such the difference in ranges, what can I do to make my key better are there replaceable parts, would say switching the key into a flip key impove the range. I'm sick to death of my keys, my spare is even worse

My old GTI was pretty shocking but I never changed the battery so that might have been why, range was about a meter

I always assumed it was the batteries too, but after changing them to Duracell super ones & still no difference. I think there is something up with my key or receiver that means it cant get the range it should do. I need to get this sorted, going to look into swapping it to a newer flick key, but don't know if you re-use the same insides of my key so will prob make no difference

Mine got worse after putting in a new battery - down to about 5-10meters now.

Could be bad timing, but the RCL paired itself to my friend's Golfs key as I changed the battery, but I doubt that caused a change.
Goes back to the original, old battery range if I put it to my head though!
Also, I've only got one battery in mine, not two. . .

The correct batteries are supposed to be 2no cr2016's (says etka) but a single cr2032 works too. Both my keys had cr2032's in when I bought the car, changing the to the correct batteries hasn't made any difference though.

There are bits and pieces of guides on the web of how to do it, but i was hoping somebody here has already done it.
It seems that it definitely can be done quite cheaply infact with the parts available on ebay, I will try & hunt out the best guide & will prob give it a go myself on my spare once i've done a little more digging.

I need to sort mine out too as I have to press it a few times to lock/unlock. I also need to get a spare key. Does anyone have any idea as to how much they cost?
