recently bought this polo 1.9 tdi
its already had quite abit of work done to it, its on coilies, remapped, decat, gt alloys, black badges, twin tip exhaust and probably a few other bits, loving the car so far. pulls very well and is great on fuel, only problem is the power steering over the past week has been getting worse and worse and now drives like a car without power steering, is this a common problem on the 1.9 tdis?? thinking its the the power steering pump so was just wondering isit a specific pump for the tdis or will any pump fit off a 9n, cheers any help is appreciated

My one had the same issue with the power steering last year and the steering would be heavy on and off. When I got it serviced I asked about it and they checked the power steering fluid and it had none at all,I had it topped up and it's been fine since although there is probably a leak somewhere. The steering racks aren't great on these polos tbh

Probably a seal on the rack blown, longer you leave it the more chance you'll need a new pump as well!

Jack up your car, take front wheels off and check the steering rack boots.
If they look like this your rack is most likely dead, it seems the pumps only die if ran dry ad a result of the racks failing.

glad to see this cars still going, was a friend of mine who owned it before the guy you probably bought it off,
yes the power steering is electrically operated as in an electric motor instead of a pump driven from the auxiliary belt.

oright mate just looked through thread remember looking through it ages ago didnt even realise it was the same car, stil is a cracking car does need a change of wheels though the gt alloys are nothing special unlike them bbs that looked great onit!! could i ask you how low u had the car? the owner before me has put some cheap s**t coiles on n wound em all the way, the rides very bouncey and bangy (not great), was thinking of just getting some lower springs n putin them on the standard shocks

I had the car on coilovers aswell just not as low as he's set them, you'll find that no matter whether you go coilovers or springs and shocks it will be a bouncy, crashy ride, as with it being a short wheelbase car it just doesn't absorb the bumps aswell, plus with it having a solid rear beam aswell that doesn't help.
