Hey guys,

Bit torn as to which remap to go for

Ive heard that Revo get rid of the 'bore wash' thats needed on the 1.4tsi...
not sure if thats true or if it is infact needed so any info on
that is aprreciated...

Apr sound good too but again ive heard some people having problems with
the map.

Obvs both companies deliver awesome remaps an work hard on them
and its not common for defects to arise but which to go for?

I'd go with apr, they have a polo gti advertising their company don't they? Along with the golf and scirocco?

the problem here is your responses will be from A, a REVO fanboy or B, an APR fanboy.

Im not a REVIO fanboy that s for sure. Theres no doubting their performance is always amongst the top two contenders on every car they map, but im just not a fan.

As for APR having a few guys with problems with their map...i reckon for every internet post about a 1.4TSIissue with APR, i could find at least 2 for the REVO 1.4TSI. But thats not the point. The issue is these engines are temperamental. You either have a good one or a bad one its pot luck.

If your going to choose between them i think you need to consider your future options. If you go REVO you are stuck at stage 2 at the most because they will not entertaion any ffuture stages of tune. That said Hurdy runs his stage 2 REVO GTI with a LOBA Hybrid turbo and still makes good power so that is of course an option. REVO has a semi switchable map system(at a surcharge of an additional £99) which allows you to change the settings of the map to different octane maps and a stock performance emulating map.

If you go APR, then you are future proofed on the tuning front. APR currently have 3 1.4TSIs in 3 different countries having stage 3 maps developed for them(mine is one of them). So APR are taking their Research and Development alot further than the other tuners who have given up at the first hurdle. Plus APR load multiple maps onto your ECU including the 100% OEM stock map which you can switch between via the cruise control map and its included in the cost.

FWIW i have had a few maps on my car. Shark performance stage 2, Jabbasport stage 2, APR stage 2 and APR stage 3 BETA test file. Review of my Shark v jabba setup here: http://www.vagoc.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=10352

tbh figures wise stage 1 & 2 maps for both companies will be neigh on identical, as will performance. They differ in power delivery, in that REVO feel very strong low down, whereas APR have a more progressive delivery, but thats down to personnal preference really.

Im keen to see what my car will be once the stage3 map is complete. I reckon about 270hp is a nice target althoguh they saty thats to easy to get!!

i guess both companies are very closely matched its all down to how you like the delivery, Apr sounds more like my sort of driving with it being more progressive as you say,

havent had any problems or excessive oil consumption or misfires in mine (hopefully none touch wood)

Revo also recommend changing the spark plugs to some specific NGK ones, is
this just for there map or arent they needed if i went Apr?

My build is gonna be past stage 2 over a certain period im in no big rush so i think for the future proof of both apr is the way.

I know Revo do that sps is it? box switch that you can change maps/octane settings, thats at an exra expense though so im not sure, i think id rather Apr's all inclusive future proofed progressive power deliver

1 last thing, is it best to get exhaust, intake first or is it the same map put on if i didnt have them on?

I think both APR and Revo now recommend the NGK plugs as an upgrade. They are slightly shorter and so don't get in the way of the injector spray as much as the stock plugs.

Revo removed the bore wash in their map as it was proving to be an issue in the OEM map with misfires. They actually say that their stage 1 map is better for the engine than the OEM map.

APR definitely have the better functionality of swapping maps through the cruise stalk. I'm still debating switching to APR, but their stage 3 map is taking quite a bit of development, so I'm sticking with Revo for now as just like Sy says, there isn't much in the maps at stage 1 and 2.

270bhp is probably as much as you'd want to put through the Polo as above this I think it would end up being too much and be detrimental to the drive ability and useability of it.

Just to add to your thoughts, i have a stage 1 custom code map on mine, setup by James from JBS. Got to say, worth every penny and that guy certainly knows his stuff. If you go and buy and APR map for the new golf R, your actually buying a custom code map that James developed I had REVO on my old 9n3 GTI and loved it. But like most are saying, the main difference is the delivery of the power. REVO certainly feels more boost happy lower down than the APR maps.
