As i switched on my aircon today i heard a pop then when i lifted the bonnet i heard a hissing noise like the aircon gas was coming out.

the fault code on the system was as follows -

16916 - AC refridge pressure sensor (g65) short to gnd p0532 - 35 - 00

i fear its not just the sensor as this cant explain why i heard gas escaping, any ideas?

Are the high and low pressure caps still on/leaking? May be worth hooking up to an zircon machine and weigh the gas inside. See if you have lost a substantial amount? If so pressure test it using the machine and see if the leak can be traced.

I cant hear the engaging noise that usually happens when you turn the system on now. and when it failed it blew the fuse 26, could the compressor have blown up?

Could well be if it went with a pop. Spoke to a refrigeration engineer at work a few weeks ago who was fixing a unit on a van. He said the compressor went with a bang.

is it easy to fit?

Reasonably easy, you need to obvs re gas the system. I may have one kicking around i'll go check..

cheers pal,

cant think what else would go in the system with a pop and let all the gas out so hoping it just the compressor, this would also explain the fault code i got about the pressure sensor shorting to ground.

ive replaced the g65 high pressure sensor and re ran vagcom and climatronics diagnostics.

i now have a 0318 or 00762 - the pressure switch f129.

does the system throw this when there is no gas?

seem to remember this fault being there when i had the car, gassed it and it went.
