Hi there, never been part of anything like this, i can barely even type  I can imagine i am going to be torn to Virtual shreds by you pro typist hardcore dubbers. Anyway to the nitty gritty, purchased a 6n2 GTI earlier this year, planning on keeping things fairly standard  I have already screwed up,RX2's were knackered so spent half a tax refund on... Lensos? BBS? Nooo i got Beyern mesh 4  for BMW? forgive me i have sinned  Soooo everyone is now bored, if i find out how to post photos i wil let you hate upon my choice of wheels. They look quite phat in 7j with an offset of ET27 with the original 195's giving a tiny bit of stretch. Only thing, 62mm centre caps, no VW Standard replacement, pants! Oh, also has anyone elses rear screen sprung a leak? No its not the rear screen washers, its just having the alarm go off every 30 seconds during heavy rain... sucks  Any help appreciated.

heyho and welcome, check if the blinding between the car and the backdoor is completly working...if theres a little crack in it - water will make its way into the lock and create a short circuit, which will lead to wrong alarm.

Hi, and thankyou for the advice. I think the water is coming from above, as it collects on the parcel shelf!
Still might relate to the problem you stated, but the drips seem to come from the seal above the rear screen.
I cant seem to find any obvious cracks or holes though! As above, i am grateful to you for your response, i suppose my only option is to have the glass removed and resealed £££££'s ouch!

heyhey, there are also two connections between the backdoor and the car (where the electroniccables go through), they are glued to the body with a kind of silicone gum stuff that gets hard and cracks from time to time...maybe take a look at them first before taking the big steps.

good luck man.

Also check you rear lock sensor as it probably has corrosion in it which is more than likely setting your alarm off

good idea !

but still the water needs too come from somewhere :?

last thing on my mind is the clearance of the backdoor...maybe it just doesnt close proper and water can come through the space...

Ha haa! found it, :D scanning through the bodywork and detailing section. Someone had described the same symptoms, and also found the solution, the LED brakelight. Sounds crazy, but is true, when i removed mine, there were traces of water in the recess surrounding one of the retaining screws, more inside where the electronics are housed. The sheer strength of similarity between my case and that of "lolhoward", plus the traces of water inside the light fitting seem to point to the same cause. Silicone sealant applied and we shall see, cheers for the input, take care all. Oh! and thanks lolhoward! Genius! 8)

Me again, ! Had a major bout of rain last night, and the seal and parcel shelf remained bone dry :D . Looking like the brake light seal was the problem, so far so good. Will keep an eye on it and post any developments (or otherwise) for future reference. Just a (short*) T20 male torx socket, ratchet, and sealant required. *The slope of the rear screen makes the screws a little awkward to access, so the shorter the better!
