Broken timing tensioner

Was driving on the motorway and the bolt on the tensioner on the timing belt has broken. All 16 valves have been bent and need replacing. Genuine gaskets, valves etc. from VW dealers would cost me £600 but from Europarts at around £350.

I wanted to know if there is a difference in quality of the valves and gaskets etc. or should i just go with the cheaper option as the Europarts are OE parts.

Also i would be gettin the head re-skimmed, is there anything else i should get done while the engine is in bits?

Valves are valves, would go for a decent gasket but that doesnt mean dealers either, get head skimmed, new timing belt, tensioner and water pump while you at it.

I saw a complete GTI engine on eBay earlier for £300-£350 (looking for injectors). Might be cheaper to just find a replacement engine?

Also, if you go to ECP use 'brisk25' for 25% off - knocks it down to £280 :)

I recently bought a complete head from a forum for £50 delivered, scout about.
