Hi everyone, been looking on the forum for a while and thought it was about time I got involved.

My names Fran I'm 22 and from Lancashire, picked myself a 62 plate Match in reflex silver 1.2 petrol baby engine but it does me fine.

I've had it now since 30.10.12 and really do love it. It's my first car too so hoping its gonna do me well!

Here's a few pics

However as of last Thursday I've been driving round in a black diesel 12 plate that smells like a gym bag :/ yep it's a rental/ courtesy car via europcar courtesy of VW assist.

So the story starts really from Wednesday night. I went n filled my tank at a local garage, started my car and headed off for the 3 min drive home literally 60 seconds drive from my house I was driving up a slight hill and I felt it had lost some power not giving it much thought I dropped a gear and gave it some more power instantly it started to die. I lost all power, it started juddering and almost every light on my dash was lit up I know it's close to Christmas but that's not what I wanted to see haha! Luckily I managed to roll it in front of somebody's drive with the rear still in the road.

So I rang VW assist who where fantastic. They sent a RAC patrol out and he had a look at it, got his laptop out and it said cylinders 2 & 3 where misfiring but the engine wouldn't even idle/ turnover. I was devastated to say the least! The guy said it was late he did his best which credit where it's due he put the time in (it was freezing too) and he towed me home ready to be sent to the garage on the Thursday.

I found out on the Thursday that the garage had messed up and they had ended up with water leaking into their underground tanks which I'd just brimmed my car with!

I was furious but stuck at work so my mrs went down and spoke to the garage owner who admitted liability and said he would fix it for free & refund my fuel if I allowed him to collect it from VW. I told him the only people touching it were VW so I got a quote and told him where I was with the situation they quoted £150-£180 to fix it warranty unaffected whoever repairs it. He agreed to pay all costs but wasn't too happy as he normally charges £50 to do the same job.

At the end of the day it's a new car and I wasn't letting anyone other than VW touch it.

So at the moment I'm awaiting VW's call to let me know when to pick it up (sooner the better I hope but it's going to be Monday I think)

So that's my story so far, hoping to start some mods in the new year not sure where I'm going to start with it but will stay as close to OEM as poss I think.

So it turns out the issue was the garage I filled up at had ended up with water in the main tanks... As a result its going to cost £180 for VW to sort it. Not the end of the world though the garage has admitted liability and decided to pay all costs an reimburse me for fuel. Hopefully should have it back sometime Monday after work!

Still working on my shopping list for mods...

I'm completely new to modding I think I'll start small and go from there...

First I think I'll de-badge anybody got any tips or best practice? I've seen people use dental floss and adhesive remover?

Next on the agenda will be lights I think!

So far I'm thinking

Pressed plates (not sure on legalities - some say ok others say no way)

Bigger wheels (I like the look of the VW Motorsport 18" - not sure on wether to pick black :/)

Been looking at the VW body kit but its a bit pricey at the mo

Where do people usually start?

Lovely car buddy, same as mine except mines a 5 door. And is a diesel which doesn't smell of a gym bag! 8) Shame to hear you're without your car for a while, but at least the garage owner isn't being a total arse about it, you're right taking it to VW, you shouldn't settle for anything less that an actual VW dealer sorting it out when you've paid good money for a quality car. Hope it treats you well when you get it back.

I take it this garage is in Preston? So nothing I or CANDYMAN need to be worried about? :D

The garage in question was in Blackburn was a texaco, the mrs is taking the bill in today for him to sort. Car is running sweet again now (if a little uneven but VW said is to be expected until fully out of system) and got a puncture 5 mins after I collected it yday so I've had to turn up at work in my mrs' 58 purple fiesta haha while she very kindly takes it to get fixed - anybody else had the tyre insurance for their car? I got mine given for free but the claims process is such a faff it's not worth bothering with.

I've been looking at getting the SEL lower grill is it just a case of a straight swap?

(Edit: above comment said 18" wheels but mistyped should have said 17")

There's the damaged tyre

National tyres quoted £99 quid to replace the tyre because of the positioning of the puncture.

Tyre insurance may be coming in handy

Hello
The rear badge is really easy to remove heat up with a hair dryer and get some dental floss behind the badge and pull towards you gently keep the dryer moving as you don't wanna scorch the paint. I had mine off within 30 mins of getting my new car home lol.

The front grill is really easy if you search my postings CANDY 6R i have put a how to on there. :D

From Lookers Blackburn I see.

I hope the service department deal with you better than they did with me! Utterly useless!

Ha! No the service department at lookers is shocking. They told me (or my mrs more like) it would be a full day to repair a puncture and they would need it first thing in a morning... I wouldn't of minded but it was their fault I had a puncture really because my tyre looked a bit soft when I collected it but as it was late and they were shutting I just thought to myself I'd pump it up at home... So by driving off I new I would be in for a lengthy discussion if I told them they'd done it.

They also forgot to give me my spare key and lost it in Sunderland! Took them ages to stop messing me about and finally just ordered a new one.

At least I've got it back now though well as of Thursday anyway. It's getting taken to have a new tyre fitted due to the placement of puncture.

Plans wise not sure yet :/ nothing's set in stone anyway just an endless list of possibilities and need to get Xmas out of the way first.

Ideally I'm going to start with the SEL grill - in process of getting a few quotes price wise (we can't all get it at trade :D)

Wheels ill probably leave until the tread is worn down on these otherwise I would feel at a loss.

I can't say ill do anything dramatic until the warranty is expired. I think at the weekend ill debadge and take a few pics.

I would like to get the RNS510 fitted & power fold mirrors look good too :)

Thanks CANDYMAN looked at your walk through for fitting and looks like even I can have a go haha - no excuses now I guess

I've had several punctures of the same kind and I've always had the tyre repaired. As long as the sidewall is okay I believe most tyre garages can repair it for £15-£20!
