Replacement Rear Shocks or ?

The Polo's rear shocks I think are bust - the car seems to bounce. Got a price of between £100 and £150 per corner for shocks, fully fitted.
What other options exist for replacement rears - something a bit more sporty or adjustable in case the car might be tracked later?

Coilovers, which are adjustable height and you can buy a set of from as cheap as around £170 ish for budget ones or £400+ for better ones with better ride quality that will last longer. You can buy the coilovers in pairs from some places if you want as well.

You can save a bit of cash by doing it yourself, it really is a simple job. Nothing will be out of alignment when you've finished. Don't put uprated suspension on the back and leave the front stock though! You'll end up facing the other way on your first blast if your rear is a firmer setup than the front! Up rate the lot or replace the rear with OEM. Places like GSF don't do GTI shocks btw. In fact they don't do anything for the 6N2 GTI if its different to a standard 6N

Rear shocks are pretty simple to replace. You dont even need spring compressors!
They are available reasonably cheaply these days and if your handy, easy to replace.
As stan has said, theres little point putting uprated suspension on the back only!

Great, thanks. So just buy basic replacements and DIY and then look at fronts later (modded) or do both at teh same time? I dont think I have the tools / time for a front shock change tho ....

It depends on your finances lol.
A rear shock from VW is around £60 IIRC. When you say 'basic' the GTI is a better than standard shock anyway.
Tools wise for a front shock is spring compressors, 18mm x2 sockets for the hub bolts and IIRC 13mm to get the top of the strut out. Then you need a heavily cranked 21mm spanner and Allen keys to split the shock/spring assembly apart. The job it's self is an hour a side tops. Just put £60 to one side for a track and camber after as it'll all be out when your done.

Thanks - is that for the fronts or rears?

Thats the front. The rear shock is one bolt at the bottom and one at the top. Getting the faglighter/courtesy light trim out the boot takes longer!
