Hey guys

Basically i have heard by drilling your airbox, you can create a nice roar from it

This appeals to me as im looking at getting a full exhaust system in August (my birthday) but want something to keep me occupied

What does it involve, where do I drill, how many holes, how big, etc

Is it safe to do etc

Basically wanna know the ins and outs, and especially who have done it themselves

No offence intended, but this is one of the silliest things you can do to a car

By drilling the airbox, you may get a roar, but youll also be introducing heat soak into the filter as the engine will pull hot air in from around the engine in preference to that from the cold air feed

It can also cause problems because the MAF on the air intake measures the air going into the engine, and if you drill holes, you are bypassing this thus causing fuelling issues also.

If you want a roar, buy a proper air filter like a BMC CDA.

You won't bypass the MAF or even the air filter for that matter by drilling the airbox as the only place you would drill is the underside of the box

However, I agree with getting a proper filter over drilling the airbox is a much better solution all round

I have a K&N 57i on mine which gives a really nice induction roar and gives a really nice "dump" from the dump valve with a 007p valve upgrade

But the airbox will suck in air after the MAF as opposed to the air going via the MAF so it is getting bypassed as such.

So 3 options:

K&N
BMC CDA
ITG Maxogen


Dont wanna sound like a chav, but I do want a nice loud roar
I understand its chavvy etc and i have to think about performance, but what will provide the best noise

There's more than just those tony. There's jabbasport cone in a box, green cotton, jetex, pipercross etc etc

The bmc is an enclosed CAI kit rather than an open cone filter too

What would be your advice then? For sound and nice loudness?

To add my rwo Cents, ive got a k&n 57i and i think this is what your looking for from what ive read

Another recommendation for the K&N 57i, lovely roar when you hit 4k+ revs and nice intake noise when shifting gears.

I don't have any of them so couldn't tell you which is best.
Just get any open cone filter with a 70mm neck, they will all sound similar
