HELP!!! ELECTRICAL PROBLEM!!!!

Got a bit of a problem hopefully someone has had this happen before and can help, I was driving the polo a couple of days ago and everything was fine then all of a sudden after a bit of hard accelerating onto a dual carriageway my battery light came on along with my abs light and the handbrake light started flashing, I took it to a mate and checked the voltage on the battery and it read 18v way too much, plugged into vag com and it threw up a load of codes most of which related to some sort of voltage fault, checked the voltage on the battery again the next day and it read 11v too low, so I thought it must just be the alternator, a mate had one kicking about so I swapped them over and after jumping it all the dash lights went out and everything seemed fine until a day later I accelerated hard onto the dual carriageway again and exactly the same thing has happened but this time all the lights came on then after leaving the car still for a while I started it and only the battery light was on, checked the voltage and it read 12.11v, drove it to the pub and the battery light went out, but it still flickers on when the road is bumpy or under heavy breaking, also my fog lights have stopped working not sure if it's related but I only noticed it when all this started happening, any help would be appreciated I have no idea where to start?????
