...Out of interest. Love my GTI and couldn't part with it, it officially returns an average of 47 something to the gallon whereas the Blue GT returns 61mpg average.
Is it really that economical with 140bhp on tap?

It can be that economical when driving like a grandad...as it runs on 2 cylinders at a certain time when driving normally
but like the gti...with so much power...once you put your foot down you will see the economy plummit back to earth

Always take the brochure MPG results with a pinch of salt because they test them on a rolling road. They also remove the break pads and disconnect the alternator to reduce friction.
This obviously gives a false result to what you will get. My 1.2 tsi said it would get 53.3mpg on average, but only if i economy drive. Normal human driving, i get around 40-45.

If it helps I can give you some real life figures from my 2013 GTI which has hit 2500 miles now.
Everyday town motoring short trips where the engine barely warms up 35mpg prior to running in this was 30mpg ish
A trip from North London to Warrington up the M40/M6 with some 50/60 mph limit roadworks 45mpg. I may have been a little naughty on occasions
Peak Mpg when driving at a constant 50-60 and trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the tank I have seen 53 mpg
This is all on Sainsburys Super unleaded and driving in auto not sport, with only the occasional override by me. I have no friends so just one in the car.
Looking at published specs I'm pretty happy either I drive like a saint or the dashboard computer is lying to me.

I have a BlueGT with 1100 miles on it now, its been averaging 50 mpg overall, around town I'm seeing 46 - 48 mpg, today I did a 80 mile round trip, mainly motorway / duel carriageway keeping between 70 and 80 and it still averaged 53 mpg! Drive it harder and it's low 40's

I have now covered 7000 miles in my BlueGT. I am averaging 48mpg but that is driving in quite a restrained way. If I kick it's arse that falls to less than 40 mpg.
Last month I did an 80 mile trip where I was really trying hard to drive as economically as possible to achieve best return. I achieved 60.6mpg on that journey. And yes I did drive like grandad.

Pretty much the same then- I love my GTI but was curious to know if the GT was much more economical.
I'll stick to my GTI for a long while then!

It still has a lot of engine problems because of the timing chain... That's why VW is going back to belt's on all their new engines...
But the Seat Ibiza Cupra which is "the same car" as the GTI comes with both manual and DSG on the same engine as the Polo GTI.

Same here. If you spec up the GT with a DSG it's not much cheaper.

You can't get a manual Seat Cupra in UK it's DSG only.
My GTI isn't run in yet, best I've done so far is 42mpg with cruise on at 65. When it's run in I reckon close to 50mpg will be possible at a steady 60

My gti has only 400 miles on it up to now & averaging 39mpg, so i'm expecting big things once it's run in!
