So I have the annoying ABS light on again in the polo and a scan on vagcom bought up the 01276 code which from past experience is down to the ABS control module attached to the pump.

Onto ebay I went and found a pump with control module on there for just under £41 all in, purchased it and it arrived the other day, I took the ABS control module off to fit to the polo and this is what it looked like:





I fitted the module to the car anyway and it threw up no less than 5 errors on vagcom saying that all the speed sensors were not working and the 01276 code. I fitted my original module back on and it's back to just the one code again now (01276).

The unit i bought off ebay is clearly faulty and all that rust is certainly not doing it any favours. I contacted the seller on ebay and said it looked like the unit had been stored in wet/damp conditions and he said "does a car not sit outside in all weathers?" He then went on to say that it was tested before it was sold and he is happy to issue a refund once the item has been checked (security markings) and tested.

I am not out to scam the chap out of any money, just want a working part as described on ebay or my money back, I personally do not know how he will test the unit when it gets sent back as it came off a polo gti that he was breaking.

That's a state

Raise an eBay dispute and get it all recorded as item not as described. That'll guarantee a refund.

As for your module, have you never split it to fix it?

I have responded to the seller again yesterday and he said that if I send it back he will refund my money, I am happy with that response.

I have split my own modules in the past Alex but not always with guaranteed results. I do have a spare module in possession from when it failed years ago, I am tempted to send it off to a company that I found on eBay that will diagnose and fix for £100 and give a lifetime guarantee. It's a little more than I was looking to spend but as long as it works that's all I care about.

I don't wan't my wife to be driving around in the car with no ABS when the snow comes, it's bad enough in the wet with no ABS.

Interesting find. Normally the resoldering is a guaranteed fix - I've fixed four or five 6n2s over the past few years and they are all still going strong

Whether it's worth checking your repair again and seeing if the same has happened is worth it would be up to you, but £100 doesn't seem unreasonable if they do in fact provide a lifetime warranty.

The guarantee is lifetime (for as long as you own the vehicle - not transferable).

Right then, the seller is being a bit of a numpty and after sending the unit back to him, this is the response he made:

Could you please tell me why you have dismantled this part .....I see no reason for you to take it to pieces in the manor you have. All that was necessary was to unbolt the hydraulic metal piping & replace it with those already attached to your car...Then fill & bleed your system. To enable you to of taken the pictures you have posted on EBAY you must of taken the item to pieces (totally unnecessary as you could of just returned it faulty) ..............Before issuing any refund I will be contacting EBAY customer support .......should they inform me to then a refund will of course happily be made........thanks mark"

So taking the module off the pump (4x bolts) as per diagram is now dismantling the unit to pieces ??????

What a moron... The pump and the actual module are obviously seperateable

eBay have now issued a full refund including postage.

Still need to resolve the broken one i have on the polo though.

Try resoldering again

I might have to unless I stump up the £100 to send one off, I have two modules so could try one and if it still doesn't work send the other off.

I wouldn't mind if it was a bit warmer
