Gearbox or clutch?

Hi everyone, new to the forum and polos. just got myself a red gti and it makes a metalic grinding noise when in neutral. Its not very load but you can hear it. It goes when i press the clutch and you cant hear it when driving, all gears select fine and theres no whineing. So what does every think gearbox or clutch? Any help appreciated.
Also if it is the gearbox does anybody know someone who has a decent one or someone who can rebuild them abit cheaper than the highstreet prices?

That'll be the clutch release bearing
You may aswell get the clutch changed at the same time for good measure as it's the same amount of work.

Cheers was thinking and hopeing that myself. Do you think theres any chance it could be any of the bearings inside the box? What do they usualy sound like when they are on the way out?

Nothing in the gearbox is engaged in neutral. It can only be the clutch release bearing.

You'd be hard pushed to have those bearings fail. 99% of grinding noises in neutral are the release bearing on the polos.
