Having a service done very soon but not with VW
My question is, is there a particular Oil they should use?

Anyone know?

Thanks

I will command them to use nothing but the above mentioned.

Can i ask why it has to be that type and nothing else?

Thanks!

I don't know about the UK. But here in Denmark you are alowed to bring your own oil for the mechanic to use.

You can usualy get the oil much cheaper than what VW will charge you.

Yeah ive worked in retail for 10 years now. Worked for some proper dodgy sales companies and im a firm believer in "say it NEEDS a £40 hdmi cable with it to get the figures up" when really a £5 cable would be just the same

Does that make sense?

Is the oil type not listed in the manual/owners handbook?

Stuck a litre of Castrol Magnatec in the git after 2,000 miles and topping up with edge after that. My thoughts were the maganatec stuff should stick and reduce oil burning/leaking issues (plus it was all I could find when i saw the engine was dry) and the edge is what they recommend going forward.

Got 5 litres of Edge from Amazon at half the street price, and keep a litre in the car in the old Magnatec bottle. fits perfectly in the safety kit position in the boot.

Any 5w/30 fully synthetic that meets the same standards or higher will be fine - check the likes of Opie Oils online, they allow you to enter the car age and engine, then they provide standard and upgrade oil options. The whole thing about Magnatec sticking to the engine is a load of marketing drivel.

I think that Magnatec is really good for using in cars like the MK3 Polo, for modern engines I'd think that it is a lot better than no oil, but maybe not what VAG had in mind. In UK main dealerships, they do not like you providing your own oil for them to use during servicing - really due to the fact that they would rather charge you maybe £15 a litre for oil they buy in at £0.50 a litre - cuts their profit margins so is not fair (for them in rip-off Britain)! As has been said many many times in these forums, dealerships will regionally have an agreement with an oil supplier, usually Castrol or Mobil but not exclusively just these two. So, whatever has been dumped into their bulk storage tank will be what gets used on your car - you will not have any say in the matter though they might just smile and say "yes" to any questions - oh and it will normally be "long-life" oil that gets used regardless of your current service regime.

Very naive but what about the brake fluid or coolant?
Just want to make sure i don't ruin the car by going for a cheaper garage.

Thanks

Coolant should always be genuine vw g13 or later specification

Brake fluid as long as it's dot4 will be fine. A good quality fluid is fine.
