Hi All,

I'm totally new here so please be gentle!

My brother recently moved my car to just park it out of the way since I wasn't going to be using it much this week however when i tried to start it today it does not seem to start. I got some jump leads and made sure it was just a dead battery and after about 20minutes I noticed the car was stuck in Drive.

I tried to wriggle the thing out of Drive into Park so i could get the engine to start so far no luck. I've tried everything I can think of and the only way the gears seem to move is from Drive to Gear 1.

Can you guys give me an suggestions to get the car back into Park, after that I'll take it to my local garage to have it checked out just to be safe.

Just a long shot, did you first turn on the ignition and keep your foot on the footbrake while you try to move from D to P

Hi thanks for the response.

I have tried that and nothing seems to work. I have also tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it hoping it would reset the electronics and i have even tried removing and reconnecting the fuse box plug with no success. I had a back break light that was out which i fixed and it still doesnt seem to let it move from D to P. Its weird since it recognises a change from D to 1 only but not back up ftom 1 to D or any other gear.

I've tried alot of different things and im just wondering if theres anything specific you might need to know which would help?
Also would having a vagcode reader be helpful here? I only ask because im not sure if its electronic or mechanical issue atm.

I have tried that already, I even tried disconnecting the battery for awhile and reconnecting it hoping that it would reset some of the electronics in the car but that didn't seem to work either I have even tried the same with the fuse box but nothing on that either

There was also a burnt out breaking light bulb which was replaced and fixed and that doesn't seem to have fixed it either.

Its weird because the car will recognize that the gear is shifting from D to 1 but not to any of the other gears (2,3,N,R,P) and it doesn't seem to recognize the gear shifting from 1 to D either it only recognizes the D to 1 movement.

I'm starting to wonder if that would be an electrical issue or a mechanical one, I only had it MOTed like a week ago now and it hasn't been driven on any long trips at all since then its just sat in the drive.

Also when I turn the car on, not turn the ignition on the EPC light stays on, not sure if that helps any?
