a bad day...

i went to my dealer today with great enthusiasm, to have my lockable glovebox and osram cool blue bulbs fitted.
a few shocking things happened:
1.the assistant looked at the lock pieces and asked, "where did you get these?" with great surprise. then the technician said to himself out loud, "how do we fit these?"
2.my dealer told me that if i were to fit 16" wheels to my polo, the wheels and the suspension would be OUT OF WARRANTY. the highest he could allow would be 15"s. i asked him if this was a local policy, because of the bad roads here, and he said no, this is how its done everywhere. i showed him the catalogue with the 17" wheels and he muttered some nonsense.
3.they fitted my osram bulbs, and it looks yellower than before. they are the correct bulbs, i can see the blue coating on them, but they are still yellow, not white. will look again at night but i don't think they were what i wanted...

what a s***ty day!!!

well, he seems to know **** about the wheels. a few minutes ago i learned that the only thing needed is a signature, once you sign a paper you can even fit 19s, and that they'll be covered by vw.

the dealer also told me that the votex roof spoiler provides a 0.4% drop in fuel consumption. that's good news, i hope that's not crap too!!

i checked my osram bulbs again, i thought maybe they needed some time to heat up or something, but no, they're still yellow. i don't have my camera with me so i can't take pics. are they supposed to be white like the xenons or are they "whiter" than the orange glow of the original ones?
i expected xenon white but surely that's not what i got.

cheers!

I have changed the bulbs in my mark3 for blue tinted ones. It works best if the sidelight bulbs are replaced too, as they are maily responsible for the yellowy glow, however the difference the blue bulbs make over standard is only minor in terms of the colour of light projected.

sorry i forgot to mention that, i had my sidelights, indicator bulbs, low and full beams replaced. the sidelights are the ones that vw sells as "blue tint sidelights". indicators are osram diadems, they have a bluish-greenish glow on them, which looks nice IMO.
thanks for the info karl

cheers!

I've used Osram Cool Blues in a previous car and the light on the road (beam) was noticeably whiter than the stock bulbs. Just looking at the headlights when they are turned on it's hard to notice much difference… instead look at the light on the road to see the difference. These are 'legal' blue bulbs, so you shouldn't really expect a huge difference in light/colour.

These days I go for performance rather than looks and I'm using Osram Silver Star and Philips Vision Plus in my cars. They're a good choice if you want best performance (most legal light on the road) and a light that's slightly whiter than stock bulbs. I now only use blue type bulbs for sidelights.
