Ive got a 256mm kit from an Octy Vrs waiting to go onto mine. Complet bolt on upgrade from what ive seen. Just make sure the carriers are from a 2wd car as 4wd ones need a 6mm spacer to sit correctly

Our 77Tsi's in India come with the rear drums, which leave a lot to be desired. Looking to install the Rear discs from the euro cars. Any guides? I have the part #s from ETKA, and have the kit on order.

any polo 2002 - current rear discs and calipers will fit the 6R rear axle

I know this because the ones on my 6R are off my 9n3 ...might struggle getting the brake lines on but they fit 100%

I noticed that our 2012 Polo has drums at the rear.

I did not realise this old tech was still in use. Even my 2008 Transit Connect van has discs all round. Having said that, the brakes on the Polo seem very good, and the handbrake will hold it on any hill.

VW obviously think rear drums are acceptable. But how long before drum brakes finally disappear for good?

Drums, I believe, are actually more efficient than discs...happy to be corrected though!

I believe, that the new polo now has rear disc brakes as standard on SE models or above. 'Disc brakes, front and rear (rear drum brakes on 1.0 60 PS and 75 PS models)'.

That is from the Safety and Security section of the new Polo brochure.

Well, as commented above, they work fine.

More hassle to check/replace the linings though!

I've replaced rear drums with discs from the 6R polo - they work perfectly and braking is so much better now, especially the handbraking which was atrocious with the drums. I've fitted the parts belonging to South African 1.6 6R polo - (ETKA code PR-1KK). If anyone needs a list of part numbers, please let me know.

Some people do say drums are more efficient and they last longer or whatever blah blah

but its all caveman stuff now..discs are miles more appealing, they look tonnes better and are obviously upgradeable...dont hear many people saying " i wana put bigger drums on my car" do we lol

If the handbrake was "atrocious" with the rear drums, then it must have been defective.

I 'upgraded' to rear discs on my current Astra...the handbrake is rubbish!

Bizarrely the handbrake (rear disc brakes) on my Transit Connect is very poor, in fact the day l got it brand new l parked it on my drive, and next time l looked it had rolled down the very slight slope and into the road :-(

It's not much better now, 76,000 miles down the road.

Whereas on the Polo, with its "crappy" rear drums, it never moves.

My handbrake came off and rolled into a bollard! 150 quid later it was fixed, it is pretty crap
