diagnostics fault code p0405 on 2011 polo bluemotion

please can someone help me
i purchased my first polo and all was well for first 3 months ,last week i got the check engine/catalyst warning light that look like this

few days later the light went out but now its came back on and its been 4 days.
today i had the diagnostics test done and the code p0405 came up "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low"
is this a common fault? ive read that its common for the warning light to come on....
i dont know where to start , i cannot afford to take car to vw or local garage as i dont have the money but i am prepared to fix or replace myself
any advice will be highly appreciated
