hello everyone , i just joint the forum i hope ill have a good time here

i bought my first car last week , ive loved it since , hopefully gona do some work on it here and there

if someone could point me in the direction of some good mods or tweaks i can do to my car?

++ if anyone is selling some alloys that will fit , kindly leave a comment please

Well that is one clean shiny car! My wife's late 2002 9N Polo 1.4SE has lots of rust bubbles on it! None much can be done to the engine, maybe try Shell V-Power to improve drivability.

One thing to understand if you have not had one of these cars with that engine previously, to check the engine oil level, if you just remove the dipstick from a cold engine, maybe from standing overnight or for days or weeks, you will find that the indicated oil level will be way up the dipstick, ie well above the maximum level mark! This is the first engine type that I have ever had this issue with, normally after standing overnight the indicated oil level would be correct. Best way to check engine oil level is after stopping a hot engine, wait 30>40 minutes at least, remove dipstick wipe clean and refit dipstick, wait 10>15 minutes roughly and remove the dipstick to read off the correct level. These BBY engines can use a bit of oil so check oil level weekly.

Sorry to resurrect an old post but I am glad you posted this RUM4MO - these engines really are a pain to check the oil level accurately,I found this post from a google search and thought 'phew' its not me going mad : )
It is the way I check the oil but I had wondered if I was correct - so nice to see your post RUM4MO - thanks v much !

Some one at work used to slag me off for making a big thing about measuring oil levels on that car, his daughter has a 1.2 6V engined Polo and eventually it turned out that it is the same with that engine - how stupid is VAG?

I've never ever had any issues with checking oil on any other cars - well maybe daughter's late 2009 Ibiza with the newer version of this engine, glad to say that wife's new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS does not have that issue, nor does my S4 - just pull the dipstick out when the engine is cold after a day/week and it reads the correct level.

I have not seen it on any other cars either,my 1997 306 diesel has an oil level gauge which shows the oil level for a minute after start and then switches off (how easy is that ?).
I was lucky with checking the polo engine oil because during my working life the official way of checking oil levels was always within 15 - 30 mins of shutdown - so realising there was an inconsistency with the dipstick readings - I just reverted to the work way : ) but always nice to have it confirmed by others !
