REPLACING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WITH NEW 6Q0 ONE

Okay, I have checked using search and can't see an mention of this in the Polo forum, so, if you need to replace your brake light switch, you will be buying the latest "6Q0" variant - it will be black (well currently is) and when fitting it, do not depress the brake pedal as was the case with the previous variants or the switch will not be set to switch on at the correct point, which seems to be with 5mm pedal depression, also it is best to apply a spot of grease to the end of the switch plunger. This later switch can be taken off and refitted if necessary which the older switches could not. Interestingly, my VW parts guy, being very helpful, said to press brake pedal down and turn new switch until you hear two clicks, I had replaced the brake switch 6 years ago with no issues, so I took onboard what he said about the later version - brake lights did not work, just like the failed one, after head scratching and removing the rear clusters, I gave in and removed the switch, which felt seized and was holding the brake pedal down a bit, and refitted it, again with the brake pedal depressed, brake lights worked that time. It was only after searching the internet did I read about, well at least the Bora one, needing the brake pedal left at its upper rest position, I checked when the lights came on with my incorrect fitting and they came on after about 10+mm of pedal travel, removed and refitted with pedal at rest position, lights now come on at 5mm travel - though while I felt a single click when removing it, I did not hear any clicks when refitting it.
