Looks pretty cool. Takes cues from the Golf R (lower bumper pillars going outwards) and the Golf 7 (bar through the headlights extended from the grill)

Pretty mild changes in the looks department then, as befits a facelift I guess. Not keen on the lower front bumper myself I have to say, although I like the lights/grill arrangement.

Biggest news is the new 1.8 litre 189bhp engine, I'm surprised they've changed it! Good to have the option of a manual gearbox too, although I've grown to love the DSG box.

I wonder what the mpg etc is like on he 1.8, and the tuning potential too.

I can't wait to see the R!

I think they've ruined it with a 1.8 again, heres to bad mpg and expensive tax and insurance, now they've given the fiesta St more of a reason to be better hot hatch

its got better MPG and if fitted with emergency auto braking will be about 5 groups LOWER than the current gti, tax might creep up though.

Beats fiesta hands down.....

Which 1.8 power pack, which cars currently use it? There is a 1.8 in the yeti with similar output but that's is probably too old.

I wouldn't expect the mpg or tax to be worse on this 1.8 than the current 1.4.

The 2.0 unit in the Golf GTI is same tax currently (for the manual version) as the Polo GTI.

Don't be surprised if it has stop/start technology also.

Straight down to the dealers to trade in my 60 plate GTI just as soon as the order books open. Despite having a new engine under warranty I'm looking forward to not having to keep oil on hand!

I'd be pleasantly surprised if you could get a reliable 300bhp without major mods on a 1.8t to be honest!

Going on how many changes were needed on my old AMK 1.8t lump in the S3 (acknowledged as a very strong engine) to get that sort of power, I wouldn't have thought it possible unless they've substantially changed the internals, fuel system and turbo...

220bhp should be easy though going on tuning options already available for modern 1.8t equipped vehicles in the VAG range.

K04 or hybrid with supporting mods has seen over 300 on previous 1.8tsi blocks.

VW might have revised the terminals hopefully should free up a few more!
