Hi guys,

I was just tinkering around on the VW UK site and came across a change to Polo 6C headlight configuration on the SEL, sparking my interest and being quite surprised to see that LED headlights are now available for the SE as an option (£900), and standard on the SEL models. These look similar to the ones originally on the 6C at the car shows and in the original Polo specification guide. I threw this together for comparison:



As I have a SEL on order and cannot remember seeing these before (I was quite concious of looking as I really wanted LED lights/DRLs), I gave VW CS a quick call and she said this would have changed on November 1st when the new prices came out.

nice post . I wonder if these can be retro-fitted to pre 1st November SEL models by Volkswagen?

I doubt VW would take on a retrofit, as LED headlights also need self levelling and headlight washing retrofitting....

Any idea how VW handle these types of change when it comes to orders on cars yet to be built?

I know the prices went up slightly at the beginning of November and I've not been contacted by my dealer about having to pay more, so what's the likelihood of getting these on my order (build is mid December)? Would they just put them on all SEL's built after November 1st or do they only install them on orders after this date?

Dunno, as the price went up. Might be worth asking the dealership though.

I got a call from VW CS earlier and queried whether SEL's yet to be built would get the upgrades, being told that mine would, but she couldn't speak for all. This is apparently because when you call CS, they call retail support with any unanswerable questions (mostly factory and build related stuff), to which questions are only asked for a specific order. I asked if this was a 100% guarantee and the CS rep said she was on hold quite a while (for me it was around 7/8 minutes), so the RS rep would have been making sure of the correct answer.

TL;DR - It's most likely any yet to be built SEL's will receive the LED headlights (and any other changes) without extra cost, but call CS to be sure.

I'm waiting on an order for a SEL and I asked my dealer who wasn't able to confirm it but said they thought I was likely to receive the upgraded specification. The new changes came in week 45 apparently and my build week is set at 16 so far.

If you check the website you will see the Driver Alert safety system is now standard on the SEL too (was previously only standard on Blue GT) so I'm so not sure if the same applies to that too.

I've asked two people at VW now (customer service and the general info line) and they both put me on hold and came back with the same answer, which was my order would be getting the upgrades. This should mean that you will be too as mine is build week 52. I'm trying to source a complete set of changes for the range, but as of yet, no luck.

I did also notice that the Blue GT option for the Bi-Xenon headlights adds the LED lights (on the configurator images), so it looks like these are now the only headlight upgrade available on the Polo lineup in the UK.

Finally

All that I know that the equipment policy is a bit strange:

Sport (changes denomination depending on the market): LED headlight as an option (standard in Spain)
Blue GT: LED are not available, at least by now.
GTi: LED headlight as an option (standard in Spain)

So, what the hell happens in the middle? (Blue GT) The only versions that keep the 6R bumper are the Blue GT an the Bluemotion...I guess that they put them aside in a certain way.

Notice that they still haven't corrected the anomaly that if you order Xenon or LED lights AND winter pack, you pay twice for headlight washers and low washer fluid warning light.

They seem to be able to manage this for the Golf, but not the Polo

When you all say LED Lights.. Do you mean the Xenon bulbs will LED DRLS?
Or is it a possibility that you can get the LED DRL's with Halogen bulb..

If so.. I will be excited!

^^I never noticed this^^ I have just ordered 5 door 1.2 tsi sel and have put down to have winter pack!!

Does anyone have a pic of these lights, are they led running lights like the old 6r gti option ones or are they just led bulbs??

I went for 17" alloys, electric roof and folding mirrors too

Brochure states:

"LED headlights for dipped and main beam including separate LED daytime running
lights, automatic range adjustment, headlight washers, low washer fluid warning light and
LED rear number plate lights"
