hello to all other polo owners, its been a year since a receive my polo 9n sedan with the 1.6 100 bhp engine since then i have encountered two mayor problems a lot of little anoying ones!!!! the first one has to do with the brakes, i had a accident due to this, at the dealership they found that the back drum brakes were broken and its a problem many cars have, due to that my car didn't stop in a red light and i finish rear endeing a taxi cab, the second big problem occured an hour ago, i was going back home doing about 60 kmh when i heard a big bang in the front drivers wheel and then a big noise that sound like something was falling off the car like metal being twisted under the car, i quickly stopped, being very concerned of my safety, i looked down the car and all was in its place, first i thought it was my mind imagining thinks after some shots of jagermeister, so i get in the car again and start driving it and this horrible noise appear so loud that the people in the car besides me started screaming to me that something was falling off due to the sound, i continued driving until i had no response from the stering wheel and the clucht, im strting to think these cars are made of plastic or are recycled, tomorrow im going back to the dealer with a complaint letter and im thinking to sue them, im am not a happy polo driver right now!!!! does anyone of you have encountered similar problems? my next car its not going to be a vw, they have lost a customer!!!!! thanks

what i noticed with mine, is that when im on the brakes and hit a bump (we have a lot in my country...malta)..it makes a noise which sounds bad...i asked other people..happend to them too...not quite sure why it happens....anyone?

Hmmm... Never heard any weird noises under my Polo, just the usual suspension rattle and that has been fixed by the dealer.

Your problem sounds VERY serious indeed, please let us know what's happened - and if you need any help in contacting the factory that built your Polo please let me know.

As for the breaks, base-model Polos sold in American markets are identical to their european counterparts, except in one "small" regard - while your basic European Polo comes with an an-alloy, 3-cylinder, 55-bhp engine our cars come with a big heavy 100bhp 1.6-litre job. Thing is, the breaks are exactly the same as those used in the 55bhp euro car (front discs, rear drums).

So I think it's fair to say that those breaks have a hard time coping with the 1.6's, and may be more prone to failure. But that's just an assumption, I'll call VW and check what they have to say.
