Leccy Windows!

Hi all, newbie here - just found this great forum! Picked up my GTi about a month ago and have been well pleased with it since...until yesterday when the drivers side window started playing up.

Basically, the problem is that it goes down fine, but when I try to put it back up, it gets about half way, stops, winds down again until it is 3/4 open then stops. If I hold the button up, it gets almost to the top and stops again. It's then pot luck if it will go right to the top! Spent about half an hour last night trying to get it shut :x

Anyway, seems to be a common thing judging from this thread.

The question I have is, how do I get the door trim off so I can have a look at what is going on? Being new to the polo, I don't want to just go pulling it off only to find there are some hidden screws that need un-doing!

Cheers for any help.

did it not come with some kind of warranty or is it out of vw warranty and you bought it privately?

It is a common fault but VW have yet to admit to it! (Theyve only just admitted to the Pedal Box fault) My electric window motor has been replace twice already and needs replacing again, but Ive told them Im not paying for it! Im in a bit of a stalemate with them over it now cos theyre seeing if they can fix it as 'favour'.

I got told it was £189+vat to fix and mine does exactly what you have described.

Yep, it's out of VW warranty, but came with a 12 month Motorplan warranty which I've just checked and electric windows are specifically covered *phew*. May as well get it done this way rather than try and bodge it myself!

Is the door trim easy to remove though?!

No idea, I haven't tried myself.

Just something I noticed about your sig, it looks remarkably familier to a picture of my car, even the shadows and clouds are in the same place... funny eh?:

I had troubles with my leccy windows a few months ago

Firstly, a couple of weeks after getting the car the passenger leccy motor died. Bugger. Fixed under warranty though :D cost was approx £200 when the parts dept. chap phoned up VW warranty peeps whilst I was sat there... ouchie!

Secondly, the driver's door switch for the driver's window started to fail, working very much as tobz has described. I got that fixed under warranty too.

So erm  I guess what I'm trying to say is get it fixed under warranty mate and save yourself the hassle :D

Does seem to be a common fault though doesn't it...

I think its a quirk that affects all VAG windows - its quite common on Arosas as well
