Took my car in for the 'recall' to have its pedal box replaced yesterday.

When i drove it away it didnt feel 100%, the plastic that surrounds the steering wheel seems to be catching on the plastic on the steering column, making a slight scraping noise. Also the clutch pedal now is really floppy at the top and extremely stiff when u get to the bottom, feels very dodgy. Another problem is that the car now makes a high pitch whistling noise when idling, as if one of the belts was on its way out (not sure which belt) So i thought fine, ill just complain tomorrow and get them to re-look at the car.

Drove it about 10 mins down the road and stopped at a mates house to watch a film.

After having a few zoots and watching the film, it was time to go home, this was at about midnight. As i was driving home i noticed the radio lights flickering as well as my dash board lights flickering. Then all of a sudden every single light and dial in my car lit up, even the cabin light !!

then they all went off and the car died :(

I was really lucky actually, at the time i was doing 50mph on a straight road, can you imagine if i was doing 50 on a bend? trying to fight the NON-power steering with 17"s would have been a recipe for disaster !

So i rang VW this morning and yelled at them down the phone for basically fcuking my car up.

The manager reckons shes going to ring me back b4 12 today to speak to me.

I think i know whats happened, firstly the mechanic is a Kunt and doesnt really know his job, AND his probably taken my car for a lunchtime rag and red lined it everywhere.

My car drove mint b4 VW got their hands on it.

Im so pissed off ! Im going to make VW pay me some sort of compensation for this, and i think its deserved.

i had to wait for an hour in the cold and rain in pitch black (country lane) waiting for the AA to come rescue me.

Makes you wonder who you can take your car to these days :(

Cheers for the replys guys, After getting back my car for the 2nd time, VW are now telling me i have to pay £560 for a new clutch

YEA RIGHT !

Seeing as it was fine before they did the bloody recall, i dont see why i should now have to pay a huge amount to get a clutch replaced, seeing as this all stems from their recall problem.

I need to ask a favour from you guys out there, could any of you that have had this pedal box problem as well as clutch problems at the same time, please leave a reply to this post letting me know what VW did and what they replaced and if it was under warrenty etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Gotta ring VW customer care tomorrow and demand they take off the £360 labour, especially seeing as how i broke down after the last time they worked on it.

Grrr

Cheers peeps

i take it that you have to go with vw for the clutch to retain warranty?

Nope i dont, its out of warranty but id rather they did it so that my service history stays with VW.

But at that price ill have to go elsewhere if they cant knock any off as a good will gesture.

How on earth can a Clutch cost £200 for the part and £360 labour

Nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

complete waffle

fair play, £560 does sound extortionate.
besides a clutch only requires dropping the engine (1hr) extract old clutch fit new (another hr) and refitting engine to gearbox and testing (1.5 hr) so it seems that charging £100 an hour is silly money.
That and the fact you are likely to pick up a new clutch for about £100 from somewhere like gsf or eurocarparts

£200 for a clutch plate? Bloody hell they're a rip off.. mine would cost £50 to replace from GSF, and I consider that to be fairly pricey... Seriously, for the extra £50 or so you'll add to your car's value by staying with VW service, it's really not worth bothering with them..

Totally sympathise with you about leaving your car with any garage, I try and check my mileage whenever I take it it and give it a good thorough check when picking it up...I've even told them not to wash the bloody car as last time i foulnd some small scratches! arrggghhhh!

I'm just waiting for them to write it off in an accident and then we will all have proof that they treat our cars with little or no respect!

You find though that most people can be like that. As long as its not theirs, they don't really care. I mean I can bet if the guy at the garage had been washing his own car, he would have spent ages. But yours I can bet was a rush to get it ready before you came to collect it. Its things like that that aren't really fair upon people like us who spend a fair bit of money on our cars, and look after them. Rant over...

thats pretty grim, talk about rip off prices.

Whenever I take my car to any garage i leave it with only a tiny bit of petrol in it (assuming i know its going in). The chances of a mechanic putting a few quit in so he can rag it around are much less than if u take it in with a full tank. I also make sure i take out the front of the radio, I learnt this lesson when my motor went in for some body work, i picked the car up turned the radio on and they had blown the left speaker.

Whenever i drive other peoples cars, including hire cars i never disrespect the cars, might go fast here and there but i dont red line etc
