I have vw polo 1.6 16v gti, MKV, year 2000.

Hi, All...

Currently I have 90 Amp alternator and BOSCH SILVER PLUS S5 12V 610A (EN) 63Ah battery (6 months old battery - bought from Costco brand new).

No sure if this is correct.

Well I am not planning to upgrade my alternator and battery. not sure where is the best place to start? is there any downside or safety issues I might be worried about?

Many thanks in advance.

Why do you want to upgrade your alternator and battery?

The battery you have with a 610A rating is easily sufficient for almost any situation and you would be hard pushed to overload a 90A alternator

I am having strange starting issues these days.

its cold weather these days and (almost everyday) in the morning when I start my car (turn my ignition - its take 2 seconds to start my starter motor) but then engine starts fine. all runs smoothly...

or

May be all my heated seats and heated rear view mirror and heated rear wind screen other gadgets are using all the battery juice or something and I do short journeys in my car (30 miles a day)..

Conditions :
1. New battery
2. I have new battery and it is covered with standard battery jacket from dealer for £17.
3. Got engine under tray...
4. Parked on the road (not garage).
5. bonnet has standard heat insulation.
6. standard radio and 6 cd changer..

now, just made me think if I upgrade alternator to 180 Amp and battery to 120 Aph will not solve this issue and keep my car in good shape .

need your advice...

Upgrading your alternator will make no difference, nor will upgrading your battery as you already have a large capacity battery

When you say it takes 2 seconds - is that 2 seconds of doing nothing then the starter motor kicks in? If so, that sounds like your starter motor has a lazy solenoid, and you should look to replace the starter motor.
