Both inside door handles have got a thin layer of plastic which is peeling off. It was like it when I brought the car and I'm sure some one else on this site has got a similar problem. Under neath the flakey plastic its shiny black plastic like the rim on the dome over the speedo and rev counter. Does anyone know how to remove the Handles, cos im gonna try and take all the plastic off as it just looks tatty at the moment.

I got mine replaced by the dealer under warranty. Is this an option for you?

My mums Lupo has exactly the same problem and my Polo has a few mnor scuffs. I think they are primarily caused by a) wearing rings and b) your keys scuffing the handles.
I make a point of not having the keys in my right hand when I'm opening/closing the door and the existing scuffs on mine aren't getting any worse.

Mine are flaky as well, had the door panel off the other week and they are fixed from the back with a couple of screws so should be easy to replace!
Gonna do this myself soon as they let down my otherwise spotless interior!

The door handles on my Polo were OK but the handle on my boot was starting to flake slightly around the edges.
Me too

Mine are suffering from the key scratches (previous owner) and I got used to them being there now.
Peelings,
Nothing left but Peelings,
Peelings like I've never known before,
Peelings in my car...
Peelings,
Oh,Oh,Oh, those Peelings,
I wish I'd never let them peel,
Peelings in my car.
You know the old song perhaps (snarf)
