Nervous Mechanic.. HELP NEEDED

Hi,

Ive been a Polo 6N2 owner for just over 24 hours now, it's my first car and I'm pleased as punch with it, she's a 1.4 MPI btw. I bought it from a garage who put a free MOT on it, it failed the first one due to bulbs and the wipers. I got it home yesterday and tried the wipers. Fronts work fine but the rear one got to the top of the window and then seized up. It hasn't moved since.

I'm thinking possibly the motor has seized because of underuse and sitting in the elements for a while. My car had been sitting there for 8 months so I think the weather has got to it. I sprayed some WD40 around the wiper and it moved half an inch again but stopped. I'm gonna try and put some WD40 on the mechanism tomorrow (as a back up im going to change the fuse too). But there's something that worries me.. The removal of the boot trim.

I know there's two screws in the handles I have to remove, that's not a problem. But I am nervous about these plastic tabs and how I actually remove the trim once unscrewed. I reslly don't want to snap the tabs. Please can anyone give me some instructions and maybe post some pictures of anything?????

Thanks for your time

Welcome

It pulls off once the screws are removed with a firm pull from the glass part first.

It slots in at the bottom so be mindful not to damage the tabs

Okay I'll give it a whirl in the morning :? Thanks for your fast reply btw :D

Reading some of the previous posts on this site, it seems like im not the only one having rear wiper issues. Another thing I don't know about is that my rear window screen wash jet doesn't work either. Again front ones work fine, select rear window clean and I just hear a noise from a motor or pump but nothing else? How do I check that nothing's leaking..

Okay so I've just opened up the tale gate and it doesn't seem to be a motor problem. I'm thinking it's maybe electrical, but I press the rear windscreen wash stalk and I hear the motor again.. Only ive realised today that when I do this I see water starting to leak from under the left front passenger door, I thats where the pipe is perhaps and its leaking?

Also I took the battery out today for charging to save me starting it up all the time and ive found two disconnected cables and I have no idea where they go, I'll post the pictures on here and hopefully you can help!

Thanks.

The rear washer pipe often pops apart behind the passenger rear seat mount - its possible the water is running down and coming out where your seeing it, so check that first off

Sure thing - post the pics up

Thanks, will do. What trim should I remove to check the pipe? & Here are the pics.

I found this cable (highlighted) in front of the fan and here's another pic of the cable showing detail.

And here is the other cable, I found this one as you can see just by the water bottle. It looks like it hasn't been plugged in for some time.

Thanks for taking a look at them, I just have no idea where they go or what they're for. Id appreciate any help.

Thanks :D

That looks like either a spare for the fog lights or a temperature sensor - it'll push back into a spare hole underneath

Do you know how I would remove the side trim by the left passenger door to see if there's a leak there from the rear washer?

& thanks for taking a look at the pics, actually what you said about it being for the fogs may well be right as my front fogs aren't turning on. This may be the cause.. :)

Youll need to remove the seat backrest post, then remove the two screws that hold the shelf in. The shelf then lifts off :) Lift back the carpet underneath and youll see the black washer pipe

Normally its very wet around there if its leaking.

I'd say foglight wiring. Most vw came from the factory with standard wiring harness, to change this harness for each and every car would be time consuming and costly, so you will often find your car has connector that are not used but with the right switch and headlamp can be used for cheap upgrades.
