Hey,

Just joined today - discovered so much already!

I have a 1999 6n Polo (affectionaly known as Penelope!)

Mods so far:
17" Rims
Clear lights all round
12" Sub and 6x9's
Colour coded interior
Gear knob etc

Mods planned:
Skirts
Exhaust
Spoiler
Lowering

ANYWAY:

Hoping someone can help - i desperately want to colour code my door handles. I'm quite good with the old spray can after doing most of my dash myself. But everyone reconds it will look silly as if i have had my doors resprayed and havent masked the handles. But i think black handles on a silver car look silly.

If i was to go ahead how easy are the handles to come of?

All opinions most welcome.

Ta.

this is vewry very simple to take them off. i did mine myself, have a look in members rides.

1.open door to reveal a star type allen key bolt. normally gold.

2.undo that bolt.

3. slide the whole door handle forward towards the front of the car, not much force needed, should move about an inch.

4.pull the whole locking mechanism outwards with handle and bobs your uncle its there.

5. the handle comes into pieces with little clips and springs, easy to fathem out.

6.leave the locking mech in, cover the long bit behind the handle with tape and use blue tack/plastercine to cover the key hole.

estimated time to strip and remove both handles 15 mins.

tips- make sure you really sand every bit, do not paint the rubber bits that make the seal to the door, when you come to put them back on check you locking mech works both ways before you do the bolt up.

any more probs just pm me

Thanks, that sounds great.

Will have a go at the weekend me thinks.

Although i got the paint code for my car (from sticker in boot, it was very faded and i think i might have got it wrong, however have since lost sticker :x ) and it was satin silver. i painted my m3 mirrors with it and the colour doesn't look quite right. tried t-cut but still far out from original colour. Is there any other way of finding out the pain code for your car?

I had satin silver - did you get the paint from halfords?

it's a completely sh!t match. way way out. I used a range rover silver in the end!

go to vw for paint if you want a good match

Yeah, I got it in halfords. Any other paint i have had has been really good from there but your right it is far out. must have a look at the range rover silver. Is paint from VW much more expensive?

not that much more - you get a spray and laquer (250ml or something) for about 11 quid....
