Another what car should I buy thread..

I'm getting older and I no longer hang round Tesco car parks with fellow "car enthusiasts" after a 5 hour shift so the time has come to get a more sensible car and wave goodbye to my beloved little 9n3.
Problem is, every other car in my price range just seems a bit boring. So I turn to you guys to point me in the right direction.
I'm looking for something with under 30k miles, less than 5 years old and have a budget of £8,000.
But the most important part is nothing boring. By that I don't mean has to be lowered and have 36" rims, just maybe the "sport" variant or something.
I'm really struggling to find something, perhaps my criteria is too strict and such a car doesn't exist??
I have come across a Renault Megane GT-Line which is powered by a 1.4 turbo charged petrol engine, chucking out 130bhp. It has a nice interior, it's pretty economical, it's not exactly rapid but it can beat my mate Dave in his 1.2 Ford Fiesta, it's cheap on road tax and insurance.
It seems like a pretty good choice, but I'm majorly put off by the fact it's a Renault. Are Renault's really bad? I had a 2004 Clio 1.2 as my first car and the build quality was shoddy, have they improved since then?
What do I do?!?
