Clutch doesn't fit

Hi all,

I bought Sachs clutch kit for my 6n2 GTI - 200mm. ARC engine code.
I have installed it, attached the gearbox back to the motor and something awkward happened.
When the motor is not running - the gears are going in smooth. When the motor is running - nothing happens.
I've opened the gearbox and the clutch and it seems like it had not friction at all.
Are you familiar with this situation? Can you please help?

Thanks,
Alon.

Welcome

Have you centred the clutch plate properly and installed it the correct way around?

Also it's important to make sure the release bearing lever is engaged properly and that the sleeve is in good condition

It sounds like something isn't in the right place

Hi,

The clutch is centered and we fitted it to the flywheel. It's installed in the correct way.
The release bearing lever is engaged properly and the sleeve (metal piece connected to the lever?) is new - it comes with the kit.

And still - the clutch does not disengage. As a result, the gears are not going in.

When you press the clutch release lever arm on the top of the gearbox, how much tension is on it. Can you move it freely or does it take a fair bit of force?

Presumably you clipped the release bearing springs into place on the inside arms too?

The bearing sleeve doesnt normally come with the kit

The lever is moving normally with the proper amount of resistance.

Can you explain the second question? sorry, did not understand it.

About the bearing sleeve, you are correct. It is in a good condition.

When you press the clutch release lever until the end, where it suppose to disengage and let you shift gears, it has noises. Don't know what is the source of it.

The release bearing has two springs that lock into the levers inside the gearbox to make it move in and out properly

Like this:

How much resistance is there on the clutch pedal itself?

It still sounds like something isnt fitted correctly.

The release bearing moves properly and there is normal resistance on the pedal.

I would say the clutch plate isnt engaging properly or is stuck so it cant move off the outer clutch friction surface

Is the gearbox off the car or still on?

It's on the car right now.
I am preparing to take it off.

Curiously, where did the clutch kit come from? Sachs stopped making these kits ages ago

I ordered it from a local dealer.
I also searched the part number and Sachs says it's suitable to my polo 6n2 GTI.

Fair enough - was more out of curiosity than a have you ordered the right part question :) given they are hard to get.

Well, I am happy to announce that problem solved.
The fork was a little bend, not something you see immediately.
Seems like everything works fine.

Alex, thank you for your help!
