Car pulling forward under braking and erratic revs

Hi all,

My girlfriend has a Polo 6R 1.2 TDi and there is a problem with the car. Sometime under braking the car pulls itself forward and jerks, with the revs shooting up. Also when coming to a stop, braking and pressing the clutch the revs shoot upto around 2k, and only when the brake is released will the revs return to 'normal'. I say 'normal' because when idling, the revs are over 1k, pressing the accelerater will make the revs go under 1k, but after a few seconds they shoot back up. Also, the car makes this gurgling noise which doesn't sound too good (I'm not sure if this noise is normal)

Could someone help, we've took it to VW Durham but they can't 'fault' the car, it's been a 2 year long struggle and it's annoying when clearly this isn't normal.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

The only time I've ever had a car pull on its own was when I blew the brake vacuum hose off the engine on my Clio

Just an experience I've had and your problem does seem to be associated with the braking system.

That's something I could look into, but that wouldn't affect the revs would it? And it would be pulling itself forward all the time?

VW have apparently checked the whole car out and can't fault it, but I'll double check all the hoses just to make sure.

The resulting vacuum leak would also explain the erratic way the engine revs. I think you might be on to something Sherlock.

Was there not a (service) rework (replacement) on the servo vac hoses on some earlier cars, I don't know if this included the TDI and can't say why VAG did not do a recall on this, just a very quiet "check when car is in workshop and replace if not already done" - I think was the way it was done, I mentioned this action when my wife was picking her new Polo up in mid August - but was given the assurance that anything outstanding would be taken care of in the PDI ! (I still believe in Santa Clause)

Thanks for all of your help guys. Instead of taking it to VW I'll give the vacuum hoses a check over myself haha

I have always taken my vw's to Volksparts (independent vag specialists) at Brandon and found them to be much more trustworthy (and cheaper) than the main dealers. Phone no is 0191 378 0284. Might be worth a ring.

Tonight I checked the vacuum from the brake servo to the intake and it looked fine, I couldn't find any leaks. What else could I try?

Mate, have noticed my car doing the EXACT same thing a few times, same car (2012 6r TDI, only 45k miles) , I assumed the car was just acting strange but to hear someone with the exact same issue!

Few times when braking I've had the revs shoot up a bit, but the main thing i've noticed is when for example stopped at lights, revs will jump to just over 1k, quick tap on accelerator and it's ok for a second and then will do the same again... then it might not happen again for a day or so.

Would be really interested to hear if you get any results/ideas from this!
