Hi everyone, I've had this problem a few years and no mechanic has been able to sort it, hopefully someone here will know the issue

When I unlock the car, the alarm will sound if any of the passenger doors or boot is opened before the ignition is turned on

The alarm will also sound if I enter the driver's side and don't start the ignition within 20-30 seconds

This is so annoying, if anyone has any ideas of how to fix it, I would be extremely grateful

could be a faulty switch in the drivers door

Have you got remote central locking?

Is it a factory fit alarm?

It's a factory alarm. I don't have remote central locking so have to unlock all doors from the driver door

I was thinking installing remote central locking might help but not sure?

A remote central locking kit may well work around it

Ah, so I think that that "feature" is just one of VAG's way of doing things, I'm sure if I were to use the dumb key to open daughter's late 2009 Ibiza (instead of using the remote key), the same thing would happen. It was not always that way in the past for most cars - well not in my experience of Fords and Vauxhalls - but then they only had manual central locking - no remote function on key.

Just a thought, are you sure that that car did not leave the factory with remote central locking and over time someone has lost the original keys with the remote function and just bought a cheaper basic key for the car?

Like RUM says, normally its remote central locking if you have an alarm

A scan with VCDS would confirm if its got a central locking enabled controller.

hi have you tried getting some one to plug in to your vehicle to check for faults ?
