Looked into this myself so also curious to see what people think. The installation looks very easy to do your self so you might save a bit of cash that way?

I also have been looking into this item as it would be nice to have everything in one unit. From what i can see it does not offer more than a good tomtom or garmin portable unit. The Kenwood does not come with speed cameras you have to buy an sd card & download thru. a 3rd. party website for a £20 a year fee .I am told the sd card has to be downloaded then put in the unit prior to fitting under the dash on top of the glove box.Does it mean you have to remove the glove box every year to update speed cameras?
As much as i like the basic idea of the Kenwood until i can find out more info which does seem to be a bit sparse i will stick with my TomTom.

Im just trying to knock £50 off the asking price with the dealer. Im wondering if all of my other functions will still work, like the on board computer etc. I really dont know a lot about it at all.

I am told alll other functions will work ie.rvc, park pilot etc. provided you have the mib 1 infotainment system.Radio will still play when in nav.mode speech directions can come from drivers door speaker.Don't take this as gospel but it is what i have picked up from my dealer & you tube.It would be nice to see a hands on demo but no luck there.

what about rns 310 with western europe maps installed, then you'd have a oem looking one with bluetooth and what not at less of the cost?
I'm interested in this as well just as a general upgrade

6C polo uses the new MIB system which locks you out of both the old system and aftermarket replacements. Wish they hadn't tbh!

That's awful, for what it's worth I've used a tom tom for work in UK/Ireland and it's pretty good once you set it up, but can be a bit tricky to set up. But ireland isn't the easiest place to navigate around so good a surprise that it was so accurate.

I've had the Kenwood/ Garmin upgrade fitted for 3 months now.
It works well, but of course provides no more functionality than a £80 Garmin Satnav. However to me it was worth it to have it built in.
I did get a £50 discount thus had it installed for £550. I could have done it myself and bought one off eBay for £475, but due to potential warranty issues with the MIB2 I thought it best to let the dealer fit it. It took them 3 attempts the get it right mind. First time no TMC antenna fitted, then they didn't set the dip switches properly for the HD Polo display, then they fixed that but lost sound!
Works fine now though.
Worst issue is that you can only alter volume on the spoken voice via the touch screen and not via the normal wheel or steering wheel controls.
The multifunction display cannot display directions but that doesn't bother me.
I have installed speed cams and they work well. You can fit the unit just under the glove box so retain access to the SD slot.
Considering that the Garmin mapping and user interface is generally much better than most OEM units, I'm happy with it. However it does seem like an older generation of the Garmin UI.

Many thanks for this info.Could you tell me what capacity sd card you used & did you have to down load it before the dealer will fit the system ?

I used an old 2GB card that I had lying around. The file size is only a Meg or two.
I got them to fit the unit under the glove box (it's still hidden from view) and then I inserted the card afterwards. Plus of course I can update it if and when I'm inclined.
